So many direct sellers are turning away from booking parties and solely concentrating on selling products directly through a Facebook group or similar. It’s such a shame as parties can be very lucrative in more ways than you expect.

I’m going to take you through why booking and holding parties in your direct selling business is one of the best ways of building a successful business quickly and profitably.

What is the definition of a “party?”

A party in direct selling terms is a gathering of people all meeting up to see and hear all about products and services from a consultant. It can be called many things. A showcase, pamper night, shopping evening, a show, a class, a get together, event.
It can be online or offline, in a home, garden, office staff room, café, village hall. Anywhere really. Usually someone “hosts” the party and invites their friends along. The “consultant” (direct seller) brings a selection of products to showcase so that the guests and host can sample, experience and see before they buy. Often the host gets a little thank you gift for holding the party. That could be a discount, a percentage of the sales, goodie bag or free product. Some companies provide this for their hosts, some won’t but it shouldn’t cost a lot for a token host thank you gift.

The idea is that the direct seller makes the party an enjoyable experience, sharing fun, games, knowledge and desire for the product followed by a short sales pitch to encourage the guests to buy, book their own party or join as a consultant themselves. It should be done in such a way that is not pressured but is natural and friendly with a serving attitude.

Why should you book parties into your business?

Money
If you sell a product to someone, the average guest spend is £35-£55. Sell someone a party and the average total guest spend is £250-£300. That’s a big difference. Now imagine if you sold 3 products a week (£105-£165) compared with 3 parties a week (£750-£900). I know which I would prefer! Especially when you look at that over the course of a month or even a year. (I can hear everyone madly digging their calculators out from here!)

More eyes on your business
Imagine if you book 2 parties from customers in your Facebook group and hold them this month. 5 people come to each one that you’ve not met before. That’s 10 new eyes on your business that would never have seen you or your products. Now 2 people from each party have booked future parties into next month. That’s 4 new bookings just from those parties. Same happens, 5 new people at each party and 2 new bookings at each one.

Now stay with me here. This is lots of maths.

You book 2 more from your Facebook group into that same month so now within 8 weeks you have booked and held 8 parties and have another 10 parties into the next 3-4 weeks to do the same thing at. You’ve also met 30 people and have the potential to meet 40 more. The next month you could be meeting 80 new people and booking 16 new parties if this pattern continues!

16 parties at £250-£300 equals £4000-£4800. 😲😲😲

Know, Like, Trust Factor
All these hosts and guests at the parties start to build a rapport with you. By organising a social event for them, providing information, having fun, adding value to their lives, connecting with them in a social way and serving them they become warm leads. They are much more likely to buy into you, your products and what you do. Social events are the best way to build that like, know and trust factor and it builds much faster when you can be the expert in the room too. Parties are the perfect way to do this.

Conversations can lead anywhere…
Parties create so many opportunities for conversations. When groups of friends get together, they chat about all sorts. Family, gossip, money, health, work. Listen. There may be opportunities to spot guests who you can help and serve.

By listening to the conversations you can tailor your messaging throughout the party and future contact with the guests to solve their problems, to help serve them better. Coming from that place of serving and solving will give you opportunities to sell more, book more and recruit more.
