A lot of network marketers are solely relying on social media sales to build their business nowadays. It’s seen as the new normal but it can be so hard. With so many others selling similar or even the same products online, there is a heck of a lot of competition out there.

So where else can you go other than social media to build your business?

Your local community

Your local community is an ideal place for you to go out, meet new people and find opportunities to promote your business. From putting up posters, dropping flyers and catalogues through people’s doors to having a display in a local shop or café for the day, volunteering locally or attending weekly community activities to get your name out there in the area, there is so much that you can do if you’re willing to put yourself out there.

Before Facebook was a thing, I grew my business by getting out in the local community and making friends. Being visible and consistent in their minds helped build up the like, know and trust so when it came to them needing to buy I was the person that came to mind.

Home parties

You might think home parties or party plan is a thing of the past – you’re so wrong! Now more than ever, people want to socialise with friends in the comfort of their own home. And why not capitalise on this.

Having regular home parties increases the number of people seeing your business, it gives people more time to get to know you as a person, let’s them touch and feel the products for themselves and it’s a known fact that people attending the parties always spend more than buying just online.

Email newsletters

Regular newsletters to your customers are a great way to keep in contact with them. Especially those not on social media. Emails sent by the company on your behalf are great and keep your customers informed of any offers and promotions coming up, but a personal email sent from you can be a nice touch.

You can use a system like Mailerlite or Mailchimp to send out regular emails to your customers. Both are free to use until you get to a certain amount of subscribers and keep you in line with current GDPR legislation.

The purpose of a regular email newsletter is to build up the like, know, trust factor between you and your audience. Sharing stories, behind the scenes, tips, tricks and sneak peeks are all great ways of doing this each week.

From these emails you can then direct people to your Facebook group or website.

Blog/Vlog

Having a blog can increase your visibility online, it can improve your Google rankings and can help build that like, know and trust factor.

Sharing what you do, why you do it, hints, tips, your life. Almost anything can be shared on a blog. There’s some great platforms out there that you can host blogs on or you can self host. Catherine Wilkinson of

is a network marketing blogger who helps others get into blogging too. Go check her out.

Attending fairs and events

Fairs and events are a great way to get your products seen by lots of people you wouldn’t ever meet. They’re also an amazing opportunity to meet other stallholders and build connections with them. You never know where it might lead! Don’t expect to sell loads, but aim to collect contact details, get people on your Facebook group or newsletter list and build up a reputation for yourself.

So don’t just rely on social media for your business. There are so many other options out there for you. Get inventive about the places you can go and the people you can speak to. There are endless opportunities out there for you.
